FAQ

I’m brand new! Where do I start?

Welcome!

If you’ve never taken pole before, Intro is where you start—and you do not need any previous dance, gymnastics, or fitness experience.

Intro is designed to teach you the foundations you’ll need as you progress, including basic pole technique, movement, terminology, and safety.  You'll most likely see some of the more advanced studios in here because its always something new and flowy!

Everyone begins in Intro and stays there until they are ready to move up. Your instructor will let you know when it’s time to advance. There is no rush and no set number of classes you need to complete.

How old do I need to be to take classes?

You must be 18 years of age or older to participate in classes at Chrome Athletics.

What if I already have a dance, gymnastics, or fitness background?

That experience may help you pick things up quickly, but pole has its own techniques, safety considerations, and foundational skills. New students still begin in Intro.

If you have significant previous pole experience from another studio, contact us before booking so we can help determine the best class placement for you.

I’m transferring from another pole studio. What class should I take?

We’d love to have you! Because levels and requirements vary from studio to studio, please contact us before choosing a level.

Email helloinfoCA@gmail.com with a little information about your pole experience and the level/skills you are currently working on, and we’ll help you find the right fit.

Do I need to be strong, flexible, thin, or “in shape” before I start?

No.

You do not need to lose weight, get stronger, become flexible, or “get in shape” before trying pole. Fitness is for every body.

People come to pole with different bodies, backgrounds, strengths, limitations, and goals. You are not expected to walk through the door already knowing how to do any of this—that’s what class is for.

What should I wear?

For pole classes, skin contact with the pole is necessary for grip and safety.

We recommend:

  • Shorts or swimsuit-style bottoms
  • A wireless sports bra
  • A tank top or T-shirt that can easily be removed or moved when additional skin contact is needed

Wear your pole clothes underneath your regular clothes when possible so you can quickly get ready without using class time to change.

Should I bring heels?

Heels are not required for Intro class. You’ll learn the foundations of pole without them.

Pleaser-style pole dance shoes are welcome during the last five minutes of free dance in Intro if you would like to bring them, but they are completely optional.

As you progress, some classes may specifically incorporate heels or have different footwear recommendations.

Should I wear lotion?

Please avoid applying lotions, oils, body butters, or other oily skin products on the day of class. They can make your skin and the pole slippery, which can interfere with grip and create a safety issue.

What should I bring?

Bring a full water bottle with you.

We also recommend using the restroom before class begins and arriving already dressed—or with your pole clothes underneath your regular clothes—so you're ready to start on time.

What time should I arrive?

Please plan to arrive about 5 minutes before your scheduled class time.

Classes begin on time, and arriving early gives you time to get settled without taking away from instruction.

How do I find the studio and where do I park?

Detailed directions, parking information, and arrival instructions are sent to the email address associated with your account.

Please make sure you enter a correct and current email address when creating your account. If the address is incorrect, you will not receive important information about your class or how to find us.

If you don't see an email, check your spam or junk folder.

Where can I see the class schedule?

The current schedule is available through our website once you create an account and sign in.

After creating your account through the website, you can also download the  Wellness Living app (The purple one) to conveniently view the schedule, book classes, and manage your reservations (cancel/change/new).

How do I book a class?

Create an account through our website, agree to the liability waiver, choose the class you would like to attend, and reserve your spot.

Class sizes are limited, so your reservation holds a specific spot in that class just for you.

What if I need to cancel or change my class?

You may cancel or change your reservation through your account or the Purple Wellness Living app.  Click on the three little dots next to the reservation and cancel the class.  You can then go book a new one.  PLEASE cancel even if it is within the 4 hours so we aren't trying to wait for you.  You may also give your spot to someone else but please email the studio first.

Changes and cancellations must be made at least 4 hours before the scheduled start of class.

When you reserve a class, that spot belongs to you whether you attend or not. Cancellations made within four hours of class—or not showing up for a reserved class—will result in forfeiting that class/credit.

Can I come to class after drinking alcohol or using marijuana?

No.

For everyone's safety, students may not participate while under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, recreational drugs, or any other substance that impairs coordination, balance, judgment, or reaction time.

If an instructor believes you are impaired, you will not be permitted to participate in class and will forfeit that credit.

What should I expect at my first pole class?

Expect to learn...not to already know what you're doing!

Your instructor will walk you through the fundamentals and introduce skills appropriate for your experience level. Everyone progresses differently, and you are never expected to keep up with someone else's timeline.

Pole can be challenging, empowering, awkward, exciting, frustrating, hilarious, and incredibly rewarding...usually all in the same class!

Come ready to learn and give yourself permission to be a beginner.

Is pole appropriate for all body types?

Absolutely, YES! Pole is not reserved for one particular body type, age, size, shape, or fitness level.

Skills can be modified and developed progressively. Your pole journey is about learning what your body can do—not comparing it to the person on the pole next to you.

Will I get bruises?

Probably!

Bruising (affectionately called “pole kisses”) is very common, especially when learning new skills or introducing new areas of skin contact to the pole. Your skin generally becomes more accustomed to pole contact with experience.

What else do I need to bring?

Nothing but your water bottle! Spray bottles of rubbing alcohol are provided and rags so you can spray down your rag and wipe your hands, feet, pole, armpits, whatever is needed!

Can I take photos or videos during class?

You are welcome to take photos or videos of yourself when appropriate, but please be respectful of everyone else's privacy. Do not intentionally film or post other students without their permission.

Your instructor may also designate appropriate times for recording so that filming doesn't interfere with instruction or class flow.  It is HIGHLY recommended that

What if I have an injury, limitation, or something I think my instructor should know about?

Please let your instructor know before class begins about anything that may affect your participation.

You are responsible for listening to your body and choosing whether a movement is appropriate for you. If something hurts or doesn't feel right, stop and let your instructor know.  It is your responsibility to check with healthcare providers to determine if this is for you.  Your instructor cannot treat, diagnose or recommend if it is right for you.
